FGS 2011 - FamilySearch Blogger Reception

FamilySearch hosted a blogger reception Tuesday night.

It was a great opportunity to meet or reconnect with other genealogy bloggers attending FGS and to hear some of the latest news about FamilySearch. Considering that many people aren't arriving in Springfield until today, there was a great crowd. I didn't get a head count but would guess around 30 bloggers attended.

Paul Nauta talked about plans for RootsTech 2012 and announced a special RootsTech registration price of $99 during FGS. Stop by the FamilySearch booth in the Exhibit Hall to register or ask questions.

Jim Ericson announced that FamilySearch will be working with a consortium to index the 1940 census. Details about that project will be released later.

David Rencher talked about FamilySearch's Civil War Records Project and the need for more volunteer indexers. He also covered some of the amazing things that can be found in FamilySearch's Learning Center

Jake Gehring explained "Field Express" - FamilySearch's new push to get records online as fast as possible, even before an index is available.

Disclosure: I am an Official Blogger for FGS 2011.
