Is This the Same Man?

This is Milton J. "Milt" Taylor (1872-1928).
His granddaughter sent me the picture last year.

This unidentified picture belonged to Mary Elizabeth Taylor Wagner.
Her grandfather, William Thomas Taylor, was Milt's oldest brother.

The hair is parted on the opposite side but I think this could be Milt.
(Maybe the negative was flipped in one of them?)

What do you think?

  1. They look very similar but the ears are not the same shape. The man on the top his ears are more protruding.

  2. I agree with Claudia, the ears are different. Also the man in the lower picture has a thinner lower lip. Of course that might be because he is holding something in his mouth. They certainly resemble one another though!

  3. Thanks, Claudia & Laura. I noticed the ears but thought that might be because of the hat in the 1st picture. Wish the 1st one was in better shape.

  4. The brow line is a bit different - Milt's eyebrows seem lower; though it may be because of the difference in distance from the subject. You might want to use your photo editing program to flip the picture the other way (not only is the hair parted on different sides, but the watch chain is on the opposite side as well), and see if you can match everything up. The more I look at the pictures, the more similar they appear.

Even if they aren't the same person, they are very similar, and I would put money on them actually being very closely related.

    1. Thanks, Jenny. The consensus seems to be that it's probably a relative but not the same person.

  5. I think everyone has already said most what I noticed - the ears and the browline, Also I think the noses are a bit different - similar but different. If I had to guess I would say that they are brothers are similar looking cousins. I do like Jenny's idea of flipping the photo though, it could make a big difference.

  6. If they'd flipped the picture, the pointy ears wouldnt be on the same side? Also if you look at the cheek bones, they really resemble one another, one seems higher up and more concave, whereas the other seems more full? Very similar though...

  7. The overwhelming conclusion both here and on Facebook is that the 2nd picture is probably a relative but is not Milt. So much for my wishful thinking. :) Thanks for all the comments.
